Being interweaved the continual transformation of gender consciousness in tribes and the cultural conflict in gender issue, the double social pressure has deteriorated the gender discrimination within Paiwan community in Taiwan. The repression and neglect of the gender issue in the tribe community and the family has not only impacted the indigenous teenager’s imagination of gender, but also hindered the indigenous community to gender identity and development. Under the development of gender diversity in Taiwan, since the indigenous communities do not belong to the majority, the people need to confront the pressure. It means when people are fighting for the right of gender diversity, the indigenous people need to deal with the issue of racism as well.

While recalling my identity, I remember the period of growing up, more or less, that I was forced to confront those gossips, whether they were intentional or unintentional, physical harm or sharp words. The physical wounds may recover due to the time, but there are always some traces and scars which stay deep in the mind and everlasting. I try to recall these feelings; however, probably I am able to make effort and be proud of myself just because of these wounds. This artwork is an installation which must have interaction with the viewer, and I hope the viewer using some sharp objects to create marks on the artwork. As time goes on during the exhibition, it will become the archive that how this city confronts this issue.

兩隻各自緊握的手,雖然感覺很貼近彼此,但仔細近看卻像似輕輕碰到彼此肌膚的視覺曖昧,他們彼此形成了可以互相支持著彼此的暫留,手的主體是由肥皂構成,透過肥皂本身的材料的特質與味道,表面夾帶著油脂的光澤感,當下輕觸的緊密有著牽絆的感覺。 There are two hands holding tightly, feeling very close to each other. While you are staring at them closely, you will notify the visual illusion that they actually merely touch each other slightly. Becoming each other’s temporary support, the hands are composed of the soap which shows the intimacy and bonding through the material’s character, scent, and the surface with glossy grease. |
At this moment, I have realized that “home” is actually a very abstract concept of harmony, which is not easy being ruined by any person, especially by a variant like me. Certainly, I have seen my mother spending almost half of her lifetime to maintain this harmony and guide my family on the path of happiness. The spirit of motherhood has also existed continually by relying on this harmony.

太過緊密的關係是否會產生反向情感呢?有些時候,雙方的往來,會使關係更加的密切,但是太過密集的交流,卻又有種使人喘不過氣的壓迫。在我的世界中,渴望能得到理想中的友誼,那種雙方無拘束的對談與信任,是否長時間相處就能得到呢?每當嘗試著與他人長時間共處時,卻意外地很想脫離這個狀態,不自在感充斥著全身。 Would an overly intimate relationship result in the opposite affection? The interaction between both sides will enhance the intimacy of the relationship, but when it becomes too intensive, it comes with the overwhelming pressure. In my imagination, I long to have an ideal friendship, and I wonder if I am able to have the unrestrained conversation and trust through associating with another person for long time. Whenever I try to get along with other people, I am surprised that I feel out of place and would love to get rid of this status. |

作品簡介:
2017年同志婚姻合法化議題之靈魂人物祁家威先生申請同性婚姻釋憲,因而司法院大法官召開憲法法庭進行討論,最終結果判決違憲,兩年內同志婚姻將能合法。本計劃透過現場活動與網路,與民眾募集日常中有關彩虹的物件,同時也在自己的日常生活中收集關於彩虹的物件。試圖以此建構對於彩虹的意象,製造這關於家的聯想與關聯。 Mr. Chi Chia-Wei, the key person of gay marriage legalization issue in 2017, has filed a petition for Constitutional interpretation of same-sex marriage and has make the Constitutional Court announcing the ruling as an unconstitutional act. The relevant laws shall be amended or enacted within two years. In this project, the artist collects objects regarding “rainbow” from events, internet, and the audience, as well as from the artist’s own daily life. The artist tries to structure the symbol of rainbow and build up the association and relation of home. |

This project comes from a field trip. It is about an eighty-one-years-old lesbian who was born in Japanese colonial period, and she has been through the post-war, martial law era until now. She has delivered four children; however, she has had many girlfriends within many decades. Back in 50s and 60s, she and her friends, as known as thirteen sworn lesbians, had become the well-known “Thirteen Gangster Girls in Qiaotou” in Daquiaotou at that moment. Furthermore, how they have managed to maintain their deep and boned relationships for many years although she and her friends all got into the marriage. Thus, I follow these story lines to look for the element of queer from the traces. These unknown queer stories in Taipei are slowly vanishing due to the continually demolishing old buildings and replacing new ones. This is her family portrait which I try to pick up all the fragments one by one. Those photos on the wall show the mother’s girlfriends who were only allowed to have the intimate relationship out of home; and the father who was living but absent.

The Series of Random Thoughts – Seeing Through (annotation: Keep waiting until seeing through all landscapes, and probably I will have your company to see the still water runs long. One second-hand ceramic sculpture of a married couple has reflected people’s imagination of happiness. It doesn’t matter where people place it, the sculpture is always a symbol of “couple” which brings the viewer the feeling of happiness and hope.)
The Series of Random Thoughts – Tenchi Muyo (annotation: It comes like a transient joy without lasting long, the flower in the mirror and the moon in the water, Tenchi Muyo. The Japanese Kanji “Tenchi Muyo” means “No turning over.”)

This series work is aim to describe tiny details of the flesh occurring between my lovers and myself, including how I practice, imagine, and develop the physical intimate relationship with another person. I sketch the simplest physical status by using the ink brush on the paper.

近日來婚姻平權法案引起社會許多討論,也讓大家更重視家的核心意義,各地發起的平權運動擴大且加深了民眾的參與與鏈結。由藝術創作者丁建中、張致中、楊雅翔、沈暐翃與趙任威,與全台各地不同領域、背景、職業者,經由網路聚集一起參與婚姻平權運動。作為活動計畫企宣組,組成成員擅長不同媒材的創作與思考,而誕生了同志生命故事紀錄拍攝與六十天環台放映的平權計畫。從前置作業再到巡迴下鄉,這場長達三、四個月的計畫,現在是否如當初想像的一樣?而這場戰爭對大家而言,意義又在哪?身為活動參與者又是如何看待整體計畫?以打破同溫層、訴求溝通與理解的初衷,團隊內外又實踐了多少?五位參與者將透過多元成展之「境外展」創作計畫,以影像紀錄、繪畫、文字等方式,重新審視身為藝術工作者如何面對社會運動組織中的自身狀況,並且回應性/別身份與藝術創作間的關係。

The marriage equality amendment has raised plenty of discussion in the society recently, and it has urged the public to pay attention on the core definition of “home.” Meanwhile, events of equality movement held in different locations have extended and deepened the participation and connection among the public. This project is formed by artists including DING Chien-Chung, CHANG Chih-Chung, YANG Ya-Siang, SHEN Wei-Hung, and Aaron CHAO, as long as other participants from various fields, backgrounds, and occupations in Taiwan. They gather together and get involved in the marriage equality movement through internet. As the team of project planning, the members are familiar with thinking and creating with different materials, and then they figure out the equality project of filming “The Gays’ Life Stories” documentary and screening around Taiwan for sixty days. From the initial preparation to the round screening in country sides, is this project which is lasting for three or four months still being the same as the original imagination? And what does this war mean to the people? As the participants, how do they value the whole project? How much does the team achieve and practice to break the echo chamber and carry on the original intention of communicating and understanding? Through the “Out-Site” Project in this exhibition, five participants will use video recordings, paintings, and texts as approaches to review how they deal with their own positions when they identify themselves as artists, and how they response to the relation between art and the sex/gender identity.
